With its three-sided fireplace as the centrepiece we wanted to play with scale and placement in the space to create drama. The effect gives boundaries in the open plan and allows each space to connect in a way that makes sense for the family.

We were brought into this project early which enabled us to respond to the site, and shape a contemporary interior space. It allowed the built form and the interior to work hand in hand to create a wonderfully liveable home.

The volume of the Baron Cottage was retained and we undertook to completely reconfigure the entire footprint to make sense of each space for modern family life. Improved connection from indoors to outdoors provided opportunities to expand the living space.

Material selection was critical to enhance the natural light and provide visual warmth in a cold climate area. The restrained and muted palette enhances the clients’ desire for a harmonious and family friendly home and cohesion throughout.
