Colours that change with the seasons can create the perfect home all year round. If you pick the right colour that changes with the weather, with the time of day and with the seasons you can have the perfect colour that suits your home and family all year round.

Trying to choose the perfect white for your home? With literally thousands of whites to choose from, you can easily feel like ripping your hair out from frustration. I love to build timeless elegance through an understated subtlety so white paints are my go-to choices. However, I need the paint to bring body and movement to the design so I naturally gravitate towards paint colours that work hard for the design itself. I look for colours that change throughout the day, that change with the weather, and with the seasons. In this way, the paint always fits the design no matter what is happening with the natural light.  It’s not magic, it’s called LRV.

The approximate light reflectance value (LRV) of a colour indicates the amount of visible light that a colour will reflect. Black has a light reflectance value of 0% and absorbs all light. The surfaces are consequently very dark and can get very hot. In contrast, white has a light reflectance value of 100% and keeps a building light and cool. All colours fit within these two extremes (Resene). So, picking a colour that has a higher LRV reflects more light, hence what you see changes as the natural light does. Magic!
